After an early start, we were met by Jared (no doubt he will feature in other posts) and the four other members of our party. There's Anna from Portugal who's a dolphin trainer and two lovely students from Germany, Theresa and Emilia who are 19, and the only guy on the tour is Nalli from Sweden.
Our first stop was Yanchep country park just outside Perth where we met all sorts of parrots, kangaroos and koalas.

A short drive and we arrived at huge sand dunes at Lancelin where the bravest amongst us sand boards down the slopes. We had to fight for space as its Chinese New Year and there are literally hundreds of tours doing the same as is. Jared is doing his best to be where and when they aren't to give us the best experience possible.
While sitting with a cold drink outside the hostel what should come down the road but two adorable Joey's in a buggy! Sharon, who runs the hostel, is raising these two and they completely made our day. Tilly is 8 months and Milo is 9 months. Euan and Sharon at our first stop in Cervantes are raising baby kangaroos as well as running the hostel we are staying in. Euan is also helping to build and has designed the new crayfish fishery just down the road at Cervantes.
The evening was supposed to be warm and sunny so that we could experience the pinacles at sunset. Unfortunately, a rouge cyclone in the north meant that it was really windy and the sand was blasting our exposed parts. The images, such as we managed, were fantastic.
Arriving back at the hostel we were treated to an excellent dinner of lasagne and salad (and gin and tonic). Apparently visiting the grog shop is what you do here and I'm happy to comply. Don't want to offend the locals after all. Everyone was exhausted and went to bed apart from Jill, Ana and I who chatted to Jared and Euan about all things crayfish. For example I learned that they're called lobster in china even though they are crayfish! Excellent example of clever Ozzie marketing.
I should add here that our room was excellent and really clean.
